Meet Daniel Smith — DTM247
Behind every great 3D print is a great design. All of the skull models we print at Northwoods Engineered are created by Daniel Smith, known as DTM247 in the 3D-printing community.
Daniel specializes in creating highly detailed, outdoor-focused 3D models, with hundreds of designs available to makers through MakerWorld. His work covers a wide range of hunting and outdoor projects, but one of his specialties is something we're especially passionate about — realistic 3D-modeled deer and big-game skulls.
From Digital Model to Finished Skull
Daniel creates the detailed digital skull models that serve as the foundation for many of our products. We take those designs and turn them into the finished skulls you see at Northwoods Engineered — dialing in the printing process, materials, hardware, mounting systems, finishes, and other details needed to create a product that's ready to display.
It's a collaboration that combines Daniel's modeling skills with our focus on producing durable, realistic displays made specifically for hunters.
Recreating One-of-a-Kind Antlers
Daniel's work goes well beyond digital skull models. He also specializes in recreating custom antlers through 3D modeling and printing.
Using reference material from real antlers, Daniel can digitally recreate a rack, 3D print it, and hand-paint the finished antlers to achieve a remarkably realistic appearance. His work gives hunters and collectors a unique way to reproduce antlers that may otherwise be impossible to replace.
Supporting the 3D-Printing Community
Daniel has also made hundreds of his outdoor-related models available for people to download and print for free through MakerWorld under the username DTM247.
For makers interested in selling physical prints of his designs, he offers commercial licensing through his Patreon membership.
We're proud to work with Daniel and bring his skull designs from the digital world into finished products built for hunters.
